The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development agreed to allow the import of live pigs from Thailand into Vietnam for raising and slaughter from June 12th, 2020. Read more

The Department of Animal Health shall promulgate written specific technical guidelines on quarantine of imported live pigs into Vietnam for raising and slaughter according to the current regulations, ensuring disease safety for the domestic pig herds.

In order to be eligible to import live pigs it is required to have dossiers provided by exporting countries to submit to the Animal Health Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for analysis of risks. Read more

Then, the Animal Health Department and importing enterprises shall hold online meetings with the authorities of the exporting countries in order to complete the analysis of import risks, reach agreements on veterinary hygiene requirements and specimen of certificate of quarantine for export.

Imported live pigs must be quarantined for 30 days.

Animals and animal source foods imported from China shall be strictly controlled at border checkpoint; only grant customs clearance after submission of the certificate of quarantine or food safety certificate.

According to the amendments at this Circular, products used for research into and production of vaccines and biological preparations: sera of horses, oxen, sheep; products used as herbal ingredients: Scolopendra subspinipes (centipede), Periostracum cicadae (the cast-off shell of the cicada), Buthus martensi (scorpion), Gelatinum asini (gelatin obtained from the skin of the donkey), pantogematogen, deer antler velvet; silk-worm cocoons; products sufficiently processed for processing of finished articles of apparel: pieces of leather/strips of fur and feather shall be exempt from quarantine. Animal products for which import quarantine procedures have been completed but which have not yet been processed or re-packaged for indirect import or export shall be also exempt from quarantine (Clause 7 Article 1).

With regard to exported animals and products thereof, the goods owner shall assume responsibility for the quarantine of exports and is not required to submit the Health Certificate for the export shipment to customs authorities for customs clearance (Clause 3 Article 1)

However, imported animal source feeds on the List of imports subject to inspection by a specialized agency before customs clearance have to undergo both quarantine and quality inspection.

The application for quarantine registration, declaration for imported animal and products thereof may be submitted online through the National Single Window Portal.

This Circular takes effect from February 10th, 2019.
